Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology with significant implications for business strategy, organizational processes, and competitive performance. This systematic review examines the strategic applications of AI in business and evaluates their effects on organizational outcomes. The study synthesizes existing research on the use of AI across key business functions, including strategic decision-making, marketing, operations, finance, human resource management, customer relationship management, and supply chain management. The review indicates that AI can enhance business performance by improving decision accuracy, operational efficiency, customer personalization, forecasting capabilities, innovation, and resource allocation. However, the organizational benefits of AI are influenced by factors such as data quality, technological infrastructure, employee competencies, organizational readiness, leadership support, ethical governance, and the alignment between AI investments and business strategy. The findings further suggest that AI adoption does not automatically translate into improved performance; rather, value creation depends on an organization’s ability to integrate AI capabilities with human expertise, organizational processes, and strategic objectives. The review also identifies important challenges, including implementation costs, data privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, cybersecurity risks, workforce disruption, and resistance to technological change. Overall, the study demonstrates that AI represents a strategic capability that can contribute to sustainable competitive advantage when effectively governed and integrated into organizational decision-making and operations. The review provides a consolidated understanding of the relationship between AI adoption and business performance and highlights directions for future research on responsible, human-centered, and strategically aligned AI implementation.
